Check Out How VFX Studios Handled Effects for Prometheus

Here's a bout of nostalgia.

The sci-fi horror Prometheus, directed by Ridley Scott, appeared on screens in 2012. If you were planning to rewatch it, here is a 26-minute VFX breakdown of some of its scenes to encourage you. It might not be new, but it's still nice to remind ourselves of the beauty of VFX.

The effects were handled by several studios, including MPC, Wētā FX, Fuel VFX, Rising Sun Pictures, Luma Pictures, Lola Visual Effects, and Hammerhead Productions. The video showcased their work on the project, complete with commentary from artists.

One of the most memorable scenes from the movie is the Sacrifice Engineer getting infected.

"Ridley wanted a very aggressive taking over of his body, and we knew we had to get into a molecular level to see his component parts being torn apart molecule by molecule by the infection or the goo," said Martin Hill, the VFX supervisor at Wētā FX.

I think the artists did a fantastic job showing the process. You will also find less sinister scenes in the video, like various environments and ships, as well as the disgusting Trilobite birth.
