CryEngine 5.7 Released

The new version features Scaleform 4, Visual Studio 2022 support, and some other improvements.

Previous version

Crytek released CryEngine 5.7 – the first major update since 2019. The list of changes, significantly different from the initial roadmap, includes Scaleform 4 integration, the Scaleform Schematyc and GamePlatform plug-ins, Visual Studio 2022 support, and more.

Introducing Scaleform 4 – the last stable version of the game development middleware – features customized rendering for higher performance and supports ActionScript 3.0, which allows using Adobe Animate.

The update also introduces Scaleform Schematyc – a plug-in that can emulate the necessary functions provided by Flow Graph for the UI system. It supports both Scaleform 3 and 4.

The updated GamePlatform plug-in, which allows communication between the Engine and platform services, now supports various platforms such as Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox and includes an optional new plug-in, which provides visual scripting nodes for Flow Graph and Schematyc.

Additionally, the engine added support for Visual Studio 2017, 2019, and 2022, as well as the C++17 standard implementation. Windows SDK has been updated to 10.0.20348.0.

Other minor changes mostly include various fixes.

The team also promised to distribute source code via a private repository for registered developers. The company says it's working on the next full version of the engine and will be doing a lot of updates this year.
