Developer Demonstrates a Neat Method of Adding Cloth Simulations to AR

It uses ARKit's SceneReconstructionProvider and allows one to achieve some impressive results.

Over the past few days, Computer Graphics Research Engineer Lucky Iyinbor has gone viral on LinkedIn by presenting an interesting method of integrating runtime scene collisions into an Apple Vision Pro AR space that "opens up quite a few cool use cases", including, as shown in Lucky's demo showcases, the ability to add lifelike cloth simulations to a virtual space.

According to the developer, the cloth mesh seen in the demo has around 20K polygons, with around 50K polygons being the limit. To set up the solution, Lucky utilized ARKit's SceneReconstructionProvider, a robust API that "explicitly provides developers with scene mesh vertices and indices" and can "go beyond collisions, doing things like occlusions, custom shadows, drawing, and more."
