Free Nintendo Retro Games Emulator Landed on App Store

Delta Emulator has already climbed to #1 on the Top Free Apps chart.

Approximately ten days ago, Apple updated the App Store guidelines, lifting the ban on retro game emulators for the first time, paving the way for new gaming experiences on iPhones.

Among the new additions is the Delta emulator, which currently occupies the #1 spot under Top Free Aps. This app is officially available for free to iPhone users in many countries outside the European Union.

The app supports a vast array of classics from NES, SNES, and N64 consoles, as well as Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo DS handhelds.

The latest version of Delta, released in February, also includes features such as local multiplayer for up to four players and game streaming through AirPlay.

For those in the EU, the emulator is accessible through the recently launched AltStore PAL app. Touted as 'Europe’s coolest alternative app marketplace', AltStore PAL is an open-source, crowdfunded app store aimed at indie developers. It currently hosts two apps: Delta and Clip, a background-running clipboard manager. While Delta is available for free, Clip requires a minimum pledge of €1.5 per year.

As stated on its Twitter page, distributing apps on AltStore PAL is free, and developers have the option to distribute exclusively to their patrons through Patreon. The deliberate absence of a manual review process puts developers in full control of distribution.
