The tool serves as an extension to the ProInstance Tools plug-in.
If you are looking for a quick and easy way to scatter animated actors across your Unreal Engine 5 environment, here's a cool new tool that will drastically simplify your workflow. Developed by Technical Artist Hossam Eldin Nasser, the newly introduced Editor Widget Blueprint extends the capabilities of Dmitry Karpukhin's ProInstance Tools plug-in, allowing the user to randomly place animation sequences in a level.
Here's how it works:
- Select assets in the scene to replace (any placeholder actor works).
- Select animation sequences in the Content Browser.
- Click "Replace Assets", this filters selected assets to animation sequences only, loops on each selected level actor, and replaces it with random animation.
- Select all the new animations (or any animation sequence in the scene) and decide whether you want to randomize rotation or the initial position only (this is done in both cases) and the range of rotations.
- Select from the Content Browser the animations you want to replace.
- Click "Randomize Animation", this does the same as the previous button, as well as gives it a random rotation and overrides the animation with a random animation of the same skeleton but doesn't replace the asset.

For those unfamiliar, ProInstance Tools is a neat toolset from the creator of the Sky Creator plug-in and Screen Space Fog Scattering shader for Unreal Engine, Dmitry Karpukhin. With it, you can control mesh or actor placement using procedural generation with easy-to-understand and unified settings. It can help you avoid doing lots of repetitive tasks in level or environment design. The toolset is compatible with Unreal Engine 4.23-4.27 and 5.0-5.3 and can be purchased here.
