Houdini R&D: Comparing Interactions Between RBD & FLIP

Ahmad Rashwan tested various densities and constraints.

FX TD Ahmad Rashwan shared the findings of his latest Houdini project, where he explored the interaction between RBD packed and non-packed objects versus FLIP, offering some commentary.

For RBD non-packed objects, he experimented with interactions between RBD objects and collisions, tested interactions across different densities, and focused on controlling spin and jittering with minimal substeps. For packed ones, he tested complex constraints and fractured objects interacting with FLIPs, feeding the RBD packed as a collision from SOPs (since packed objects have no volume representation) for more accurate results. He also tested the interaction between different densities of RBD and FLIP.
