Learn about Miles Morales's Struggles in New Spider-Man Short Movie

Sony Pictures Animation teamed up with Kevin Love Fund to address mental health issues.

Even (or perhaps especially) superheroes have mental health problems as Sony Pictures Animation shows in the new short movie called The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story, created for Kevin Love Fund's mental health-focused lesson plan, "The Hero Within."

Miles Morales is no stranger to overwhelming decisions that threaten to eat you alive: he has to juggle his responsibilities as a teenager, friend, and student while protecting the neighborhood as Spider-Man.

"After a particularly challenging day living with these pressures, Miles experiences a panic attack that forces him to confront the manifestations of his anxiety and learn that reaching out for help can be just as brave an act as protecting his city from evil."

The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story was directed by Jarelle Dampier, written by Khailia Amazan, and produced by Leading and Empowering New Storytellers (LENS) program creators Michelle Raimo-Kouyate and David Schulenburg.

Sony Pictures Animation and Sony Pictures Imageworks' LENS is "a 9-month leadership training program that provides candidates from underrepresented groups with an opportunity to gain valuable leadership experience in animation." Its participants "strengthen their ability to effectively articulate their film’s creative vision and collaborate across a variety of disciplines."
