"I'll visit it in VR some day and feel like I'm sitting back in the driver seat."
Armed with a DSLR camera, Photogrammetry Artist Azad Balabanian spent nearly an hour carefully capturing a few hundred images of his old Toyota 4Runner just before selling it. Thanks to 3D Gaussian Splatting, we can now virtually explore the car's interior, capturing every fine detail, and when combined with VR, it offers a way to preserve the past and revisit it at any time.
Unfortunately, Azad Balabanian hasn't mentioned the specific software used for this project, but based on his previous works, it's likely that PostShot was involved. As for translating 3D scans into VR, the artist recommends using Gracia.
Take a look at more of Azad Balabanian's memories transformed into 3D Gaussian Splats:
Earlier, we shared Studio Duckbill's test of the newly released plug-in for Unreal Engine 5.4 by Postshot, used to transform Fuji Kyozai, a hobby shop in Japan's Ehime Prefecture, into a 3D Gaussian Splat and visualized in Unreal Engine 5:
