Andry Dedouze continues to experiment with novel workflows in Blender.
One of our favorite Blender artists, Andry Dedouze, showed how you can mix 3D rigs with traditional animations created with Grease Pencil in Blender. The artist says he created multiple versions of the arm, and when the arm unfolds, he switches between different versions.
"The arms are all drawn in different poses and then animated with armatures. With the constraint of the drawing that needs to be drawn over the rest position of the armature, I had to create multiple armatures, one for each rest position, and then sync their animations," wrote the artists.
Andry then used masks to show only the needed version of the arm depending on the arm angle. "I wish there was some layer folder system or something global to hide a whole Grease Pencil object," noted Dedouze.
