Similar to ZWrap, Mesh Match is designed to match objects with different topologies and is currently in its final polishing stage. This tool is aimed at studios and individuals who want to automate the transfer and retargeting of deformations between objects with similar structures, such as facial shape sculpting, reducing production time for a character by days.
This is just the first phase of David Liebard's ambitious release plan. As he describes it, Mesh Match is the first advanced mesh registration tool available in Maya built to evolve, and in the future, it will include automatic facial recognition powered by AI.
Watch the video above for an overview of its features, and check out the quick demo below, which is slowed down by at least a factor of 10 compared to the actual registration process. According to David, for these specific meshes (3000 to 6000 vertices), adjusting the parameters takes around 10 minutes, while the entire registration process finishes in less than one second.
Mesh Match tools, videos, example scenes, and more will be available for download on Gumroad by the end of March.
