Autodesk revealed it is planning to integrate generative AI services into Maya – the team wants to give creators the ability to generate textures, materials, and HDR images inside the 3D toolkit.

The announcement was at SIGGRAPH 2023, where the team also shared plans to introduce integration between Maya and Wonder Studio, Wonder Dynamics' AI-powered animation software.

What's coming to Maya with the AI-powered release? The software will get tools to generate textures, materials, and HDRIs inside LookdevX, Maya's new set of tools. The team also shared that the new features were developed using Picasso, Nvidia’s cloud-based platform.

Previously, At SIGGRAPH 2023, NVIDIA's CEO Jensen Huang made several groundbreaking announcements pertaining to the company's advancements in the realm of generative AIs. You can find the announcements here

Autodesk states the addition of new tools will make look development and scene lighting workflows "dramatically faster". "Supercharging Autodesk customer workflows with AI allows artists to focus on creating — and to ultimately produce content faster," added NVIDIA.

"We’re integrating generative AI services developed using NVIDIA Picasso, a foundry for building generative AI models, into Maya," wrote Autodesk. "As a first step, we’ll work toward responsibly and ethically integrating AI into 3D content creation for characters and worlds. The ability to dynamically generate textures, materials and high dynamic range images directly into LookdevX in Maya will enable dramatically faster look development and scene lighting workflows."

As for the new partnership with Wonder Dynamics, the two teams want to "empower artists to harness the power of AI for character-driven visual effects workflow". Autodesk will start doing that by integrating Maya and Wonder Studio.
