Players Are Disappointed By Star Wars Outlaws $130 Edition But Not Surprised

Just another day or pre-orders.

Last year, Massive Entertainment promised not to inflate Star Wars: Outlaws' length, but no one mentioned prices. Ubisoft announced the Gold or Ultimate editions of the game, and they are what you expect.

The Gold edition costs $110 and adds a 3-day early access so you can enjoy the experience before the plebs with the base game only and a Season Pass, which gives you 2 DLCs that will be released after launch, the "Jabba's Gambit" exclusive mission, and the "Kessel Runner Character Pack" featuring additional cosmetics for Kay and Nix.

The Ultimate edition is $130 and offers the same benefits plus 2 bundles with cosmetics and a digital art book.

Predictably, some players were not thrilled with another pass in their library of video games, especially for these prices. "Jesus christ that's $176 CAD," said one Reddit user spotted by PC Gamer. "That's more than any collectors edition I've seen but usually that would come with some giant statue of a character."

Interestingly, fans don't seem surprised anymore and even try to organize "self-help" sessions in the comments: "Honestly, ask yourself: do you really need a digital art book, 3 days of early access, and a season pass to a game you don’t even know you’ll enjoy? Or enjoy meaningfully enough to want additional content?" asked another Redditor.

Just a reminder, Star Wars: Outlaws is a single-player game, so there's no one to boast about your advanced gear to. Dragon's Dogma 2 is harshly criticized for its microtransactions, so no, the time for in-game shops left and right hasn't come yet, and publishers need to be careful about these practices.

Whether or not you decided to pre-order it, Star Wars: Outlaws is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on August 30.
