Realistic Underwater Detonation Set Up With EmberGen

Jason Key showcased the capabilities of JangaFX's flagship software with one more impressive simulation.

Jason Key, a Principal VFX Artist and Evangelist at JangaFX, continues the series of experiments with the company's flagship software, unveiling yet another outstanding simulation made with EmberGen, JangaFX's real-time volumetric fluid simulation tool that allows users to simulate, render, and export flipbooks, image sequences, and VDB volumes.

Proving that EmberGen can be used for more than just fire and smoke, Jason has set up a realistic-looking real-time underwater explosion simulation that was "achieved by keyframing positive and negative pressure from a point force with falloff" and uses GPU particles to simulate the bubbles. According to the author, this example was simulated and rendered at around 40 FPS on an RTX 4090 GPU

The EmberGen file for the simulation can be downloaded for free by clicking this link.

Back in June, Jason also demonstrated how EmberGen can be used to set up an appealing underwater effect:

Although EmberGen has the capacity to simulate liquids, its primary purpose is the creation of digital fire, smoke, explosions, and such. To specifically address fluid simulations, JangaFX is actively developing an entirely new software called LiquiGen.

Originally announced in 2020 as a companion to EmberGen, LiquiGen is currently in the early stages of development. JangaFX and Jason periodically share impressive demonstrations, showcasing the tool's progress. Just last month, the artist demonstrated LiquiGen's core water simulation and real-time simulation and path-traced rendering capabilities:

And here are a couple of demos for LiquiGen shared by JangaFX back in 2022:
