See How 3D Animator Darkened This Character's Mouth

That's a solution too.

3D Animator Raphael Cancellier shared a behind-the-scenes look at one of the characters from his animation last year, explaining how he darkened the inside of Jack's mouth to ensure it aligned with the scene's lighting. As you can see, instead of painting the inside of the mouth, the artist simply placed a small Maya fog inside it.

This approach is as clever as it is amusing, and many animation artists leverage fun techniques to their advantage, something game animators often can't do since they don't have control over how players use the camera. You might recall Tony Bonilla going viral for sharing how Mirabel's arms were stretched out of the viewer's sight to help frame one of the Encanto shots:
