The RTX 5070 is "boring, disappointing, and ultimately pointless."
NVIDIA
When NVIDIA's CEO Jensen Huang promised the GeForce RTX 5070 costing $550 to be on par with the $1,600 RTX 4090 flagship, many had their doubts – after all, why would the company offer the same performance for a fraction of the price? Well, long story short, the 5070 is not the same as the 4090 – is not even close, actually.
Several outlets have gotten their hands on the new-generation GPU, and tests do not look very favorable. "The RTX 5070 is so boring, disappointing, and ultimately pointless that we are going to shorten our review," said TechSpot and provided their benchmark results, which do seem pretty weak in comparison.

Huang's promises of similar performance were actually a bit cheeky, as the RTX 5070 used multi-frame generation to "draw" frames between missing ones. Yes, they are there, but they are ultimately fake – the 5070 can't come close to the 4070's performance.
As TechSpot's tests in 16 games – including Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Star Wars Outlaws, Counter-Strike 2, and Starfield – show, the RTX 4090 is 63% faster than the RTX 5070 at 1440p. With ray tracing, the new GPU doesn't work at all due to its 12GB VRAM buffer, according to the outlet.

In Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the RTX 5070 couldn't even load the game at 4K with ray tracing. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl demonstrated the 5070 performing 9% worse than the 4070 Super at 1440p, and with CS 2, the new card is "essentially an RTX 4070 Super."
Overall, if you have $550, you could consider buying a Blackwell GPU or the RTX 4070 Super. Or, just wait for a better option.
