The Elder Scrolls VI Will Be Released in 2026 At The Earliest

It was also confirmed once again that the new TES game is not coming to PlayStation.

A newly disclosed chart, released by Microsoft as part of the FTC vs. Microsoft case, has recently provided some details regarding The Elder Scrolls VI, an upcoming new installment in Bethesda's legendary TES franchise, first announced back in 2018.

According to the document shared by The Verge, The Elder Scrolls VI is not expected to be released until at least 2026, confirming the earlier statement made by Microsoft's lawyer during the hearing that TES VI has the projected release in 2026 as a single-player game.

Furthermore, the chart also reaffirms that much like Bethesda's recent titles, such as Starfield and Redfall, The Elder Scrolls VI will exclusively launch on PC and Xbox platforms, with no plans for release on other platforms, including PlayStation.

This aligns with a previous statement by Phil Spencer, the CEO of Xbox and Microsoft Gaming, in a 2021 interview with British GQ. "In order to be on Xbox, I want us to be able to bring the full complete package of what we have," Spencer said in the interview. "And that would be true when I think about Elder Scrolls VI. That would be true when I think about any of our franchises."

It's important to highlight that, despite the chart indicating a projected release year of 2026 or beyond, Spencer had previously disclosed that fans shouldn't anticipate the eagerly awaited continuation of the series until, at the very least, 2028. During a conversation with an FTC lawyer, Spencer emphasized that the next installment in The Elder Scrolls series is  "likely 5+ years away".

If Spencer's assessment holds true and the game is indeed slated for 2028 or later, it would entail a ten-year gap between the game's announcement and its release. Earlier, Bethesda's Director Todd Howard discussed TES VI's way-too-early announcement, revealing that he considers it to be a mistake and wishes to have approached the occasion differently.

However, the situation isn't entirely bleak. In late August, it came to light that the game in question had entered early development, with Pete Hines, Vice President of Bethesda Softworks, confirming that the studio's developers have already commenced work on TES VI.
