LogInCD PROJEKT RED has its hands full for the next many years.
After revealing the three new games in The Witcher series, CD PROJEKT RED also confirmed that the next chapter of the franchise, codenamed Polaris, is still at least three years away from release.
Speaking with investors, President and Joint CEO Adam Kiciński discussed the upcoming games in the series and said The Witcher 4 is still early in development. The game is being made on Unreal Engine 5, which requires additional work.
"For Polaris, we are preparing technology. This is the first project to be released on the new engine, Unreal Engine 5, [so] there is a need for some extra work making this technology," he said, as reported by IGN. "For this project, for sure we need some extra effort to deliver."
Then, an investor asked if it means The Witcher 4 is three years away or more, to which Kiciński answered yes, so we can't expect the game to come before 2025 or even 2026. The other two games should have a smoother way due to the foundation being laid down now.
The Witcher 4 was announced in March and entered pre-production in May. The other two games in the new trilogy Canis Majoris and Sirius will not be developed directly by CDPR.
