ZBrush For iPad Got Its First Major Update

New Surface Noise, UV Map, Texture Map, and Displacement Map sub-palettes, Pencil hover and roll features, custom toolbar, and more.

After months of anticipation, Maxon officially launched ZBrush for iPad in September, bringing the full power of the popular 3D sculpting software to iOS. ZBrush for iPad offers nearly all the capabilities of the desktop version, with ongoing updates to close the gap and introduce new features for an even more comfortable experience.

ZBrush for iPad just got upgraded to version 2025.1, marking its first major release. Along with general stability and usability improvements and the same set of supported languages as on the desktop version, this update brings several popular features for customizing surfacing.

The new Surface Noise lets you apply procedural textures and patterns, creating detailed visual noise without modifying the underlying geometry. You can also use this feature to generate an alpha or apply it directly to a sculpting brush.

Several sub-palettes are now available, including UV Map, Texture Map, and Displacement Map, each offering powerful tools for managing your model's surface appearance. The Texture Map sub-palette allows you to apply and control texture maps using images, useful for sending models to other apps, while the UV Map sub-palette provides tools for generating, adjusting, and managing UV coordinates that define how textures wrap around your model. You can now create basic auto UV unwraps with control over map size and view the unwrapped version of the model directly in the viewport, making it possible to sculpt and paint in UV flatten mode and have those changes applied to the 3D model.

Finally, the Displacement Map sub-palette enables you to apply displacement maps to deform your model's geometry, enhancing its detail and structure.

The Mask Adjust feature in ZBrush for iPad 2025.1 allows you to refine the intensity and properties of an existing mask, offering greater control over how it influences the model's surface. You can use the blur slider and a curve to manipulate how the mask will be adjusted.

To enhance your experience on the iPad, you can fully leverage the hover capabilities of your Apple Pencil Pro, along with the roll feature to adjust values on circular sliders:

Additionally, you can create fully customized toolbars tailored to your workflow, with the option to add features like Dynamesh, Sculptris Pro, and Live Boolean to streamline your process. Also, check out the improved Undo History Bar and learn how to use it as an effective sculpting tool.
