Check Out How Motion Capture for Monster Hunter Wilds Was Shot

Looks fun.

Waiting for Monster Hunter Wilds can be torturous, so here is a little sneak peek at how Capcom shoots motion capture to make the anticipation easier.

Siliconera got a chance to tour Capcom's facilities and see how things are done there. There are 3 mocap studios in the building with 26 cameras in the studio where the demonstration took place.

Animator Naohiro Taniguchi described the process to Siliconera's Jenni Lada, and the motion actors Daichi Miura and Masatoshi Fukidome showed off their moves while player lead animator Hiroya Sasaki and enemy lead animator Kenji Yamaguchi supervised the process.

"Miura, as the Hunter, included grunts and cries you’d expect to accompany such actions, even though those weren’t being recorded in the moment. Fukidome immediately adopted all of the mannerisms of Doshahuma, and later a Palico, during the segments. When Fukidome first growled and shouted for his part in the performance, it even caught me off guard!"

Then, Lada saw the instruments Capcom uses to create monster cries and how they all come together in a "bellowing roar."

We'll see the results of this hard work on February 28, 2025, when Monster Hunter Wilds gets released for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
