Sam Gao has revealed several techniques for achieving stylized effects in real-time rendering.
LookDev Prototype Artist/Environment Artist at Blizzard Sam Gao, whom you might remember for showcasing a beautiful stylized shader inspired by Studio Ghibli's Howl's Moving Castle back in 2022, has released Alchemy: Unreal Stylized Tinker, a series of techniques for achieving stylized effects in real-time rendering in Unreal Engine 5.
As part of the series, the artist shared some more info regarding the previously mentioned shader, demonstrated how UE5 can be used to set up gorgeous stylized clouds and water, discussed the engine's Virtual Textures and more. The creator also noted that some of the techniques might be outdated, as the experiments took place during the "transition period between UE4 and UE5".
