Who needs realism when you can enjoy a fountain of shells from a single shot? That's what game developer Sean Gause thought after a funny bug in his Western-themed survival horror Hear Tell of Hauntings was received exceptionally well on X/Twitter.
A gun spilling thousands of shells was so beloved, in fact, that he added it into the game as a "cheat" feature. But how did it even happen? Apparently, the particle effect was called for every frame during the cycling routine.
"I had no limit on the CycleAction function. The animation can only play once at a time, but the function itself was called once per frame until the lever had been cycled successfully."
Hear Tell of Hauntings, partially inspired by Disneyland's attraction Phantom Manor, is still in development; you can follow its journey on Gause's or his company Two Stamp Studios' X/Twitter.
