Planet Earth Recreated in Blender & Unreal Engine 5

Check out this beautiful recreation of planet Earth made by Leo Torres.

Freelance 3D Artist Leo Torres has unveiled a fantastic real-time recreation of Earth as seen from space. According to the artist, this fantastic version of the Blue Marble was made to try planet-scale rendering in Unreal Engine 5 and see what difference SubSurface Shading can make. Additionally, the artist used Blender to create the shadow casting cloud effect.

"This version is using a combination of masked cloud spheres and displaced high poly spheres in Blender to get that 3D, shadow casting cloud effect," comments the author. "A bit clunky, but I've also been playing around with planet-scale volumetric clouds, although that still needs a fair bit of work to make it less cartoony when used from outside of the atmosphere."
