The developer comments that it is the biggest update yet.
Polycam Inc, the developer of a LiDAR-powered 3D scanning app for Apple devices Polycam, has announced a new update for the tool, the biggest update in the app's history, according to the company. The update brings the possibility to combine LiDAR scanning data with Photo data to create high-quality photogrammetry models.
The team adds that a new feature has been on the app since version 2.5. "It automatically kicks in if you process a LiDAR capture with the "OBJECT" preset and there are 500 frames or fewer (roughly 6-8 mins of capturing). All on-device," comments Polycam.
For those who don't know, the app was created by John Stalbaum, Elliott Spelman, and Chris Heinrich all the way back in 2020. The tool allows you to create high-quality 3D models from photos with any iPhone or iPad, and rapidly generate scans of spaces with the LiDAR sensor. Polycam works on iPhone 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, or 2020+ iPad Pro. You can learn more and download the app here.
