The Godot Engine team recently made an announcement that Mega Crit Games, the indie developer renowned for its 2019 roguelike card game Slay the Spire, is now Godot's Gold Sponsor. This indicates that Mega Crit Games has donated a minimum of $1,500 to support the development of the open-source engine.

The developers shared that they gained valuable insights during the migration of their upcoming game to Godot. They express pride in supporting Godot and contributing to the provision of an accessible yet robust option for indie developers to craft video games.

"We're proud to support a free, open-source engine like Godot so that devs everywhere have an accessible yet powerful option to create their projects with," the developer wrote on Twitter. "Our team has learned a lot while migrating our next game to Godot, and we're so excited to show off its power."

In case you missed it, Mega Crit initially announced in October that their upcoming game would be powered by Godot. Originally, they had planned to use Unity and had even commenced development using it. However, they changed their decision following, you guessed it, the introduction of new runtime fees.

Back in September, when Unity first revealed its new pricing policy, Mega Crit was among the first studios to criticize the engine's creator, alongside developers of Among Us, Cult of the Lamb, The Last Night, and numerous others.
