Take a Look at First Images from Miyazaki's Final Film

The Boy and the Heron was released in Japan last month.

There isn't much talked about Hayao Miyazaki's latest, and last, film, The Boy and the Heron (also known as How Do You Live?) even though it was released in Japan a month ago. Part of the reason is that Studio Ghibli decided to skip any promotional materials: no trailers, ads, nothing.

So it was a pleasant surprise when the ticketing website Fandango published four images from the movie, full of the studio's signature vibrant colors and fantastical visuals.

You can see the film's characters, fascinating birds, and a heron with bizarre human teeth – a true Miyazaki movie that promises a grand adventure and a lot of emotions.

How Do You Live? was inspired by Genzaburo Yoshino's 1937 novel of the same name but doesn't directly adapt it. The film follows Mahito, a boy who finds a copy of this book and then enters a mystical tower, which leads him to an alternate world.

Here are some more pictures from a promotional booklet published in Japan:

The Boy and the Heron was launched in Japan on July 14 and earned ¥6.2 billion ($42.5 million). It's not clear when it comes to other parts of the world, but we expect to see it before the end of the year.
