The Callisto Protocol Developers Were Not Given Promised Time & Had to Cut Enemies

KRAFTON reportedly started ignoring Glen Schofield after the game was out.

Striking Distance Studios

The Callisto Protocol had a hard time not only after it was released but also during production. The game could have received more content if Striking Distance Studios had more time, which was promised to it by the publisher KRAFTON, according to director Glen Schofield.

In a recent interview for the Dan Allen Gaming YouTube channel, he reveals that he wanted about three and a half more months to complete The Callisto Protocol, and KRAFTON was ready to give it and more at some point, "just no regrets," the publisher allowed him to put whatever he wished into the game.

However, in January 2022, the company changed its tune and put its foot down: The Callisto Protocol had to be finished in December. This, of course, led to stressful work hours and content cuts. Schofield says he was forced to get rid of "two and a half bosses," "three or four enemies," and other stuff, some of which was eventually put back when the studio managed to free some employees a little.

On top of the time constraints, the studio had to deal with COVID and people leaving because "everybody's paying through the roof" during that boom in gaming activity – Striking Distance lost 49 people.

All of this made 2021 the worst year in Schofield's career. Player reception wasn't that great, and comparisons with the Dead Space remake, released just a month later – the series created by Schofield himself – probably didn't help.

He said that after the launch, the publisher started ignoring him: "KRAFTON wasn't talking to us. They were just like, 'Where is the DLC?' ... Three and a half months, that's what we needed."

Now, he would do things differently and refuse to release an unfinished game: "If you want the game to ship, then you come take over the studio and ship it."
