Vertex Arcade Ships the Highly-Anticipated Sketch Shader for Blender

First showcased in 2022, the shader is finally available to download.

Delighting hundreds of Blender Artists worldwide, 3D Artist and Game Developer known as Vertex Arcade has finally shipped Sketch Shader for Blender, a customizable NPR shader that lets you easily give your 3D models a hand-drawn-like appearance.

First unveiled all the way back in 2022, the shader features various shading styles, stylized Grease Pencil outlines, over 50 different Paper textures, some compositing tricks, and various shader controls to give you full control over how the shading looks. Recently, the author revisited the shader, and after spending a month polishing its features has finally made it commercially available.

According to the author, the shader comes with six Shading Styles to choose from (Hatching, Crosshatching, Chaotic, Scribbles, Stipples, and Lines). You can easily switch between the styles using the Sketch Style control on the Shader.

To conserve space, the three different levels of Sketch textures are packed into the Red, Green, and Blue channels of a single RGB texture. These channels are then separated within the shader, condensing three RGB images into one.

Furthermore, the shader offers an extensive collection of over 50 Paper Textures and nine sets of tiling textures, each available at three different damage levels. Users can blend between these textures using the provided Node Group in the Compositor.

As noted by Niall, the shader was designed for Blender Eevee 4.0 or higher. It may work in older versions, but some features may be broken and/or missing.
