Artist Recreated Pillar Stance from Black Myth: Wukong

Promise Emmanuel Oluwadare wanted to keep the material UV intact when the staff gets longer.

Black Myth: Wukong is not only the game that enthralled millions of players on the very first day, but it has also inspired them to make their own projects.

For example, game developer Promise Emmanuel Oluwadare was impressed by the Pillar Stance mechanic, which extends your staff and keeps the texture material UV intact. So he decided to recreate this material behavior in Unreal Engine 5, making the UV mapping stay in place after the staff gets longer, which took him only 2 hours.

The resulting animation might not be as flashy as the original one, but the fact Black Myth: Wukong makes artists and devs notice such details says a lot about it, I believe.

Here is the mechanic in the game if you'd like to compare:

Black Myth: Wukong's popularity is even more impressive when you learn its demo was created by "only 20 or so people." While its release on Xbox was reportedly delayed because of an exclusivity deal, one fan managed to play the game on a smartphone.
