HyunSug Han showcased his The Lord of the Rings-themed Houdini pipeline learning project.
Check out this impressive walk cycle animation featuring The Lord of the Rings' Gandalf the Grey, showcased recently by LookDev and Lighting Generalist HyunSug Han. Described as a "Houdini pipeline learning project," the sequence was animated in Maya, with Gandalf's lifelike hair and robe set up using SideFX's flagship procedural 3D software. Additionally, Houdini's Solaris and Pixar's RenderMan were utilized to handle look development and rendering.
The Gandalf model itself was first showcased by the artist a few months ago. Inspired by HyunSug's passion for movies based on J. R. R. Tolkien's novels, the character was made with Maya, ZBrush, Mari, Substance 3D Painter, Marvelous Designer, XGen, and V-Ray.
Going forward, HyunSug aims to finalize the project by setting up a 3D environment for Gandalf to traverse, so we highly encourage you to follow the creator on LinkedIn so as not to miss any future updates.
