This Has to be One of the Most Realistic 3D Animations Ever Made

If not for the WIP shots shared by the author, determining whether it is CG or not would be impossible.

Even though we've seen our fair share of photorealistic animations and lifelike renders here on 80 Level throughout all those years, every once in a while, we are still left with our jaws hitting the ground, finding ourselves wondering whether what we see on the screen is indeed computer-generated or if it's a skillfully disguised real-life video cleverly made to resemble a 3D render in post-production.

One such artwork was Rendering Artist Irakli Kurashvili's latest masterpiece, dubbed Vintage Vibes by the author. Inspired by European landscapes, the animation in question depicts a retro Audi car driving through a photorealistic forest, with some effects added in post that make the render look nigh-indistinguishable from videos made in the late '80s and '90s. According to the creator, the animation was set up using a combination of Cinema4D, OctaneRender, and DaVinci Resolve.

To prove that it is indeed a 3D animation, the artist also shared several work-in-progress shots demonstrating how the car and the surrounding environment looked during production:
