This Realistic 3D Environment Transports You to the Wild West

Milan Dey has showcased his latest digital scene from the viewport perspective.

In case you missed it, around a week ago, Lighting Artist and Lead Unreal Engine Generalist for Virtual Production Milan Dey presented Devil's Creek, a stunning digital environment that transports you to a small town somewhere in Arizona during the Wild West era, making you feel like a stranger with a big iron on your hip riding into an unfamiliar town.

Inspired by 20th-century Hollywood spaghetti westerns, Devil's Creek perfectly captures the essence of a typical settlement from those films, evoking an irresistible urge to take a shot of whiskey, put on a cowboy hat, and seek justice with one's trusty revolver. To set up the environment, Milan utilized assets from Dekogon, BIG/MEDIUM/SMALL, and Megascans, as well as Nuke and Unreal Engine 5.3.

Recently, Milan provided an update on the project by sharing a series of real-time UE5 viewport captures to showcase the level design and detail of Devil's Creek. "Someone asked me how much this Environment is in real-time and how much is done in compositing. The answer is here," commented the creator:

And here are some behind-the-scenes shots for Devil's Creek shared by the author, we highly encourage you to visit Milan's ArtStation page to see more of his amazing projects:

Back in 2021, Milan also joined 80 Level to tell us about designing the Abandoned Alley project, show the lighting setup in Unreal Engine, explain how Megascans' assets were used in the production, and reveal the secret behind the project's name.
