3D Artist Created an Impressive Underwater World With Unreal Engine 5

Finn Meinert Matthiesen showcased a new Subnautica-inspired 3D environment.

3D Artist Finn Meinert Matthiesen, who specializes primarily in creating gorgeous 3D environments with Unreal Engine, has unveiled Sci-Fi Underwater Base, an impressive underwater scene inspired by Subnautica.

Created as part of the artist's "Core Crusade" Game Pitch universe, the scene was set up using 3ds Max, ZBrush, Substance 3D Painter, Substance 3D Designer, and Sketchfab/Megascans assets and rendered with Unreal Engine 5. As stated by the author, the goal of the project was to "come up with a really fast composition". "Since I raced through the weekend, I often relied on Quixel and Sketchfab scan assets for a lot of those corals and underwater plants and (especially) that shipwreck," noted Finn.

And here are some of the artist's earlier 3D environments, you can see more by clicking this link:

If you would like to learn more about Finn's approach to environment art, we recommend checking out our 2020 interview with the artist, in which he talked about his RTX Lighting Studies in Unreal Engine, discussed the vegetation pipeline, and more.
