A New 16-player Cooperative Survival Game Mixes Valheim, Terraria, and Minecraft

Check out an Unreal Engine-powered project titled Codename: Islands that will take you to a "magical, living island."

Looking for a new survival game to spend time with your friends? You might want to check a project called Codename: Islands which is a 16-player survival crafting game which is said to be "100% cooperative." Inspired by Minecraft, Valheim, and Terraria, the game is being created by several veterans of Riot Games, who have joined Treehouse Games.

"Codename: Islands brings you to a mysterious, unexplored ocean world where you work together to build a settlement on top of a magical, living island," said the team. "Players will partner with up to 16 of their friends in a shared world where they can build an ever-evolving home, explore surrounding islands, craft powerful gear, battle monsters, and awaken their island spirit."

The team has also shared a short teaser showing three adventurers on a tropical island using magic to awaken an ancient stone.

"We love social games where we can find quality time with others," said Michael Chu, former product manager at Riot Games. "But far too often, multiplayer goes straight to brutal competition and shooting each other when all you want is to hang out and have fun with your friends.

"In our game, whether you love to base-build, gather, explore, fight world bosses, or craft unique gear to create your own kit, you'll play an essential role in your group," said another former Riot member, Andrea Sepenzis.

The game will not launch in 2023 but the team plans to share more later this year with playtest sign-ups in late 2023. You can check out the team's website here.
