A New PS5 Ad May Hint at a New Uncharted Game

Fans believe that two short clips from Sony's new promo may indicate that the publisher could be working on a new Uncharted game starring Nathan Drake's daughter.

Sony has released a new PS5 ad that is seemingly hinting at a yet-to-be-revealed game, which, as some fans believe, could be the next Uncharted installment.

The new promo titled "Live from PS5" showcases Sony's exclusive games, including those from PlayStation Studios and third-party developers, as live-action clips on a fictional news broadcast. Featured games include God of War Ragnarök, Spider-Man 2, Horizon Forbidden West, Returnal, and Gran Turismo 7.

As Sony noted in its latest blog post, the video "hints at the breadth of extraordinary experiences" available on the console and also dares players to "spot all the game references."

While the majority of games featured in the ad are highly recognizable, there are two clips in the video that don't seem to be related to any already-announced game. One live-action segment that is shown briefly in a short burst features a young woman with a flaming torch exploring a cave. A separate brief clip shows her discovering an ancient artifact and blowing the dust off it.

This part of the commercial made some fans believe that with these two clips, Sony hints at the continuation of the Uncharted series that would feature Cassie, the daughter of Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher.

The last numbered game in the series, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, concludes with a scene featuring Cassie discovering relics from her parents' past adventures and Drake deciding to share their stories with her. This has led some to speculate that the next Uncharted game could feature Cassie as the protagonist, carrying on from where her parents left off.

Last week, Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann stated that the studio has "moved on" from the Uncharted series, however, this doesn't eliminate the possibility of another studio working on the IP, especially considering that it could be a new game with a new heroine.

As noted by VGC, job listings that PlayStation posted last year may indicate another studio co-creating "an exciting new project with Naughty Dog in a beloved franchise."

While it remains to be seen if Sony is indeed working on the next Uncharted game, it may be clear why the publisher could want to continue the franchise. Uncharted 4 sold 16 million copies and even the game series' mediocre film adaptation generated revenue close to four times its budget. With industries heavily investing in established franchises, Uncharted, which paved the way for Sony's first-party development success, is unlikely to be left untouched.
