Dead Cells Surpasses 10 Million Units Sold Globally

The team has also reassured fans that they can expect even more Dead Cells updates through at least the end of 2024.

Developers Motion Twin and Evil Empire have announced that their hit action roguelike Dead Cells has achieved a remarkable milestone by surpassing ten million units sold globally.

The roguelike Metroidvania game made its debut in Early Access on Steam in May 2017, with subsequent releases in August of the same year for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. The game expanded its reach further with the release of iOS and Android versions in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

To date, this highly acclaimed indie game has received over 30 free updates and has seen the release of four paid DLCs. Among these is the recent addition of Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania, a crossover that brings together the beloved Konami franchise with the world of Dead Cells.

Alongside the announcement of the 10 million milestone, Steve Filby, the CEO of Evil Empire, shared with GamesIndustry.biz that the studio has developed a robust content roadmap that extends at least until the end of 2024. This demonstrates Evil Empire's commitment to delivering ongoing updates and expansions for players to enjoy throughout the foreseeable future.

Additionally, Filby mentioned that the studio is currently working on two new games based on established intellectual properties, while Motion Twin is focused on creating an original IP. The first game is set to enter Early Access in 2024, with plans for the second game to be released in 2025.
