Intel and Broadcom Demonstrate Wi-Fi 7 Capabilities

The two teams promise 5x faster speeds.

Intel demonstrated Wi-Fi 7 technology with partner Broadcom – a Wi-Fi 7 connection between an Intel Core-powered laptop and a Broadcom access point showed an impressive 5 Gbps transfer speed. In case you're not familiar with Wi-Fi 6, its maximum capacity is 1 Gbps.

Broadcom claims that "the ecosystem is ready" highlighting that the new upgrade ensures greater network capacity and the benefits of much lower latencies. For example, the tech offers the possibility of UHD 16K streaming.

"We are proud to highlight how next-generation Wi-Fi 7 can make new mobile PC experiences possible. Industry collaboration is essential to ensure we deliver on the promises of this new wireless technology. We would like to thank our colleagues at Broadcom for their great technical cooperation, which helped enable this unprecedented, first-of-its-kind demonstration of ultra-high speed and ultra-low latency Wi-Fi 7," said Carlos Cordeiro, Intel Fellow and Wireless CTO, Client Computing Group, Intel.

The Wi-Fi 7 system is said to be supported by wider 320 MHz channels in unlicensed 6GHz spectrum and higher order 4K QAM data modulation. Please note that the upgrade isn't expected to be certified until next year. Intel executives believe Wi-Fi 7 will start to be "installed in PC products such as laptops by 2024."
