Control Magic in Skyrim with Your Brain With This Cool Mod

This Skyrim modification will require you to use your focus and concentration to cast spells.

A Neuroscientist by day and Modder by night Marius Klug a.k.a. Cangar has created an outstanding mod for Skyrim VR that makes your in-game magical powers dependent on your real focus, concentration, and mental powers.

The mod is called Real Virtual Magic and it completely revamps the entire magical system of Skyrim. Cangar’s mod removes Skyrim’s passive mana-regen, so the only possible way to charge up the blue bar is through focusing and using your actual brain. Average brain activity will give you about half a bar’s worth of magic, focusing as intensely as you can, doubles the damage done by your spells, not focusing at all reduces damage.

The mod requires Muse 2 or a Muse S meditation device, a special headband used to measure brain activity, heart rate, breathing, and body movements during meditation, connected with a Bluetooth BLED112 dongle, and a VR headset. Cangar admits that the mod "is just a super early alpha version" and requires testers to learn more about the BCI, which algorithms are effective and which are not, etc.

"I am a neuroscientist working at Technische Universität Berlin in the department of Biological Psychology and Neuroergonomics, and my research is based on electroencephalography (EEG) in VR," comments the creator on the reason behind the birth of the mod. "The goal is to measure the human brain in its natural habitat – doing things inside the world, not sitting still staring at a screen. As I am also an enthusiastic VR player and part of the Skyrim VR community, the idea of a BCI-based mod came up, and Real Virtual Magic was born."
