The new The Legend of Zelda installment has become the fastest-selling game in the history of the series.
Less than a week since its official release on May 12, 2023, Nintendo's new The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has already managed to shatter a few records, becoming not only one of the highest-rated games of all times, but also the fastest-selling game in the history of the entire Zelda series.
As stated by Nintendo themselves, Tears of the Kingdom sold over 10 million copies worldwide in just three days since its release. For comparison, the series' previous installment, Breath of the Wild, sold 30 million copies in its entire six-year lifetime, while Mario Kart 8, Nintendo Switch's best-selling game, reached the number of 53 million units sold. With a pace like that, it is highly likely that the new chapter in The Legend of Zelda franchise will bet several more sales records in the coming months, if not weeks.
"We're grateful for all of our fans who've shown their passion for The Legend of Zelda over the years, and these sales numbers for the latest installment continue to show the strong momentum for both the franchise and Nintendo Switch this year," commented Nintendo's EVP of Sales Devon Pritchard (via GamesBeat).
Earlier this week, TotK Producer Eiji Aonuma and Game Director Hidemaro Fujibayashi also expressed their interest in the series movie adaptation, and considering the new title's financial success and critical acclaim, as well as the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it seems that The Legend of Zelda: The Movie might be just a matter of time for Nintendo.
