The Armory3D development team has launched ArmorPaint 0.9, a new and improved version of its open-source 3D painting tool, making it the first sizeable update for the application in almost two years. Available on desktop, iPad, and Android, the new version of ArmorPaint comes with several new tools and tons of bug fixes and feature improvements designed to accelerate the workflow.

The release introduces a brand-new Smudge tool and a UV unwrapping dialog, as well as the inclusion of group masks and height/opacity picking, along with various other new features, minor enhancements, and user interface improvements. Furthermore, this latest iteration of ArmorPaint incorporates a new OBJ parser, resulting in a 40% boost in OBJ import speed while reducing memory usage by 20%.

"ArmorPaint has been in development for quite a while now and it's been a joy to watch whenever it helps you create art," commented the developer. "I can not wait to improve it even further – next up, the first ArmorPaint 1.0 alpha builds are incoming."
