Turning a Megascans Asset Into a Stylized Background

The arist utilized the ILIAD plug-in to add a painterly 2D-like feel to the asset.

Artist and Developer Fabrice Debarge from Praxinos, a team of creators dedicated to developing plug-ins and software for 2D and 3D Artists, has unveiled a cool new project that showcases the capabilities of one of the plug-ins made by the team. The artist has managed to turn a Megascans asset into a stylized 2D-like background with hand-painted vibes.

According to the creator, the painting effect was applied directly in Unreal Engine 5 using ILIAD, Praxinos' free plug-in for UE that allows its users to paint on textures and create 2D animations, to paint over trees and rocks. The outline effect and shadows were added in the post-process. In the future, the developer plans to release an in-depth tutorial on how this project was done, what techniques were used, and how to work with ILIAD, you can subscribe to Praxinos' YouTube channel so as not to miss it.
