This 3D Recreation of Morrowind's Balmora Was Made 100% by Hand

The author utilized Maya, ZBrush, Substance 3D Painter/Designer, and Unreal Engine 5 to set up the location.

Proletarian X, a 3D Artist and self-described CG aficionado, has paid tribute to one of the most iconic RPGs of all time, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, with a breathtaking high-quality 3D recreation of Balmora, the city where every Nerevarine likely spent a substantial amount of time.

Inviting outlanders to walk the familiar streets and alleys of Vvardenfell's second-largest settlement once again, the reimagined Balmora was created as a personal project in the artist's free time. According to Proletarian X's ArtStation post, the city was made 100% by hand using Maya and ZBrush for modeling, Substance 3D Painter/Designer for texturing, and Unreal Engine 5 for rendering, along with the engine's Nanite and Lumen tools.

The creator also considers relighting the project in the future, so we highly encourage you to follow Proletarian X on ArtStation so as not to miss any future updates. And here are some of the static Balmora renders shared by the artist:

Earlier, Technical Artist Mica Olsson also showcased a high-quality recreation of one of Morrowind's most iconic locations, Seyda Neen, and subsequently joined 80 Level to explain how the scene was set up using Megascans assets, talk about making Fargoth with MetaHuman, and share the lighting setup.
